So I had another birthday.
And I'm getting scarily close to a zero number.
It was a pleasant birthday.
Mark took me to Hawksmoor for the best steak I've ever eaten in Manchester on Saturday. I met up with a couple of friends after for a quick pint, before Mark informed me we had no money left on the meter and had to leave.
Sunday my dad came round with a present and in the evening went to his folks for my 'birthday tea' with cake, candles and 'happy birthday' singing.
But today was my actual birthday and it was massively overshadowed by the death of David Bowie. A hero to me and most of the people i know.
I discovered his albums amongst my parents vinyl when I was very young. I fell in love with Space Oddity, Fame and Changes. And when I was older and had pocket money I was able to buy more of his albums and discover the breadth of music he made and was still making.
My first boyfriend and I became big fans and managed to get to see him in 1997 at a secret gig at the Academy. He was taking a break from huge festivals around the world where he was promoting his Earthling album - which I loved. He took a break from dressing up and played us a greatest hits. I was amongst the youngest there so easily made it to the front row and wasn't even squished as the crowd were there to watch and admire - not scream and drink.

I opened my presents tonight. 2 Star Wars Pop figures from Ellie/Mark. Rey and BB8. Sketch Books and pencils off dad. Nothing from mum. Sketchbooks and a little SW space ship from Paulette. My smallest horde ever. Whoo - barely and clutter! :) Cash from Dad and Mark's folks.
I had Ellie dancing to Dance Magic Dance from Labyrinth this morning and I did shed a tear or two. And we have been listening to Bowie vinyl tonight. I dusted a couple off.
I had a couple of friends Alpa and Carli came round for cake this morning and forced them to listen to Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, an obsession of mine in the 90s.
And to end - a couple of very different Bowie influenced illustrations I have drawn in the past.
A cartoon based on the Goblin King and the poster for a play "Corrie's Fat Brenda" which is influenced by the Ziggy Stardust cover.
